London, October 2006: Reggiani spa Illuminazione, one of Italy’s foremost lighting manufacturers, has teamed up with leading architectural practice Richard Rogers Partnership to create Maantis, an extraordinary break-through in lighting design.
The idea for Maantis sprang from an initial conversation between the late Goffredo Reggiani and Richard Rogers and the new light is the result of more than 3 years’ intense collaboration between the two companies, involving a collective team of more than 10 key personnel.
Maantis meets an identified need at the top end of the office lighting marketplace. This innovative solution has been created for use in new-build office developments and in the refurbishment of existing office spaces. The system will also be available for use in other commercial and high-spec residential buildings in the future.
Maantis is an elegant and multi-functional lighting system. With its advanced technology incorporating 'T5' strip lighting, spot and LED lighting, the linear pendant fitting was inspired by the iridescent glow of deep sea creatures. Maantis uses translucent prismatic polycarbonate ribs to diffuse, reflect and refract light from the T5 tubes, minimising glare and light spillage and maximising efficiency. The LEDs running along the lower spine act as zonal indicators and provide optional low-level lighting. Maantis can be installed in group formations or as a stand-alone fitting.
Maantis will be officially launched on Thursday 9 November 2006 at the London office of Richard Rogers Partnership.
